In the start...

DuxWare began as a software application designed to “computerize” management of a physicians’ practice. In 1991 computers were nearly non-existent in doctors’ offices so our application enabled our clients to escape from the mountains of paper forms and ledger cards that were common in doctors’ offices at that time. Computers were very expensive and not too powerful which made it difficult for doctors to adopt the “new way” of managing their practices. The ones that did saw a dramatic improvement in productivity and efficiency so many providers began moving from manual paper ledgers to computerized patient management. During the same timeframe, electronic claims became a way to file claims electronically to Medicare, Medicaid and some private insurance companies which would speed up the reimbursement time to the provider. This was another significant reason for doctors to computerize their practices to take advantage of electronic claims submission.

The Challenge...​

Due to the technology at the time, our application was installed on servers inside of the doctors’ office meaning we had to install a myriad of devices in order for a provider to network more than one office which was complicated, expensive and not always that reliable. Furthermore, our service technicians had to go to each client site to provide updates and maintenance on their system. As we grew, that became harder to accomplish so when new tools became viable that would allow us to “dial in” to our clients’ computers to support the software, we took advantage of that technology and provided faster, more efficient service. Although this was a more efficient manner of servicing our clients, the software was still located on servers in the offices of our clients that also needed maintaining and finding qualified IT companies in their areas that could manage UNIX servers was a challenge to both the client and to us. We thought there must be a better way.

The “better way”...

With the rise of web technology we found a better way. Although commercial web technology was in it’s infancy in 2003, we began writing a new application that would run over the internet through a browser on a PC in our client’s office. That meant no servers in the offices as well as our ability to manage one core application that could be utilized by many clients. This was the solution we had been looking for, so in 2005 we launched the newly developed DuxWare as a “SAAS” – Software as a Service solution. Providers no longer needed expensive servers in their offices; they just needed a reliable and high speed internet access which was available to nearly every area of the country. With DuxWare as a SAAS application, we were now able to host the software in a high availability, HIPAA compliant data center which would enable us to grow throughout the USA and elsewhere.

Here we are today...

DuxWare is now a mature and proven solution for providers nationwide. While new features and improvements are being made continuously to DuxWare, we have also been able to focus on value added products and services that add more efficiency and bottom-line profit for our clients. One of those products is patient engagement services that manage appointment confirmations and recall communication with patients. Another is a complete Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) service where our providers allow us to handle all of their billing and follow-up so they can focus on providing unfettered medical care to their patients while we take care of getting them paid for their services.
